ABSTRACT

In October 2015 I was invited to participate in a three‐day international workshop at Oxford University discussing options for greenhouse gas removal (GGR) technologies. The workshop brought together more than eighty people including many of the world’s leading academics in this area, together with representatives from industry, media, UK research councils, the UK Met Office and philanthropic organisations, all seeking to promote GGR as a response to global warming. The discussions were fascinating and left me in a confused state of hope and despair.
