ABSTRACT

The lessons are great for using across the curriculum there are skills gained which are useful in many contexts and the children enjoyed the more active approach to learning that the book promotes. Teachers are obviously able to tweak them themselves to suit any number of situations and curriculum areas, which make them, time savers as well. This chapter explains that children need support in understanding how people develop and change their speaking style according to situation. This is something that affects certain groups of the children more than others. The material has some really nice strategies for supporting these skills. The steps are clear and show progression and the build-up of age-related activities is useful. The chapter uses the document to support the school council in organising their discussions and we hope to start some debate clubs next year.
