ABSTRACT

A Frequency Dictionary of Turkish represents real language for nonnative learners by providing information on the words they are most likely to encounter in communicative settings. The main frequency index contains the 5,000 most frequently used words in contemporary written and spoken Turkish, extending from very basic core grammatical words such as the determiner bir, to more intermediate and advanced vocabulary. The dictionary provides a list of most commonly used suffixes in their verbal and nominal domains, which helps learners to observe their functions and particular locations in the complex word forms. A large-scale, corpus-based, and methodologically sound dictionary of Turkish word frequency was produced by Goz. A Frequency Dictionary of Turkish is the first dictionary prepared from data derived from a balanced, representative, and comprehensive corpus of Turkish, the Turkish National Corpus.
