ABSTRACT

Most of our experience, memories and knowledge are organized in the form of stories. Stories represent the fundamental instrument of thought. Neuroscientist Antonio Damasio states, “Consciousness begins when brains acquire the power, the simple power I must add, of telling a story without words.” 1 Our brains naturally tell stories as a way to give structure and meaning to our lives. This innate facility means that stories are easy for us to remember—in many ways stories are how we remember.
