ABSTRACT

Science syllabuses, including subjects such as physics, general science and applied science and technology, often cover energy, energy conservation and loss, nuclear power, electricity, design of electrical appliances, and other aspects related to consumer education and of increasing concern to consumers. Syllabuses on legal studies cover contract, civil and criminal law, and in particular the consumer and the law. Quite commonly this group of subjects includes aspects of government and social decision-making. Indeed syllabuses such as communication studies emphasize the use of language by business and government. Since many consumer problems arise through poor communications, and since the consumer movement has been closely linked with the media, consumer studies are relevant here as well. Some companies and local authorities run pre-retirement courses which include health, housing and money management, all aspects of consumer education.
