ABSTRACT

Family law encompasses marriage, the marital relationship, children, and divorce. One might well ask what families has to do with agricultural law. The 2007 Census of Agriculture, conducted by the National Agricultural Statistics Service, an agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which reported that almost 96 percent of the 2,204,792 farms in the United States are family-owned farms. This chapter provides a brief summary that will guide the reader to areas of interest that may be pursued in greater depth. The person who holds the power is called the health care agent of the person who signed the health care power of attorney. The health care power of attorney and the living will may be separate documents, or they may be combined into a single document. Medicaid is the federal program that is operated under delegation to the states that pays for health care for those with incomes below certain thresholds.
