ABSTRACT
Chapter 6 considers the ways in which Margaret Thatcher sought to solidify British links with and interests in the Gulf through her two historic visits to the region in 1981, the first by a sitting British Prime Minister. It also stresses that far from the empire striking back in the Gulf in the form of informal imperialism, British decision-makers sought to pursue a more demonstrably modern and recognizably post-imperial relationship with the Gulf States.
