ABSTRACT

Education is universally a powerful vehicle of social mobility-facilitating employment, economic freedom and stability, and contributing to an improved quality of life for those who experience its opportunities. Indeed, many individuals, families, and communities have made tremendous intergenerational progress toward achieving their dreams on the strength of a quality education in the United States and abroad. But education systems are also fraught with systematic inequalities that both mirror and reproduce disparities in broader society as they ripple beyond school walls.
