ABSTRACT
The purpose of this chapter, unlike earlier reviews of mathematical models in so cial psychology, is to present a brief perspective on mathematical applications. Hence, it is addressed primarily to students who have had little exposure to mathematical models. In accordance with this intent, the mathematical applica tions in this chapter have been selected so that they can be readily understood without any knowledge of mathematics beyond elementary algebra and proba bility theory.
