ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book illustrates rich, innovative and pedagogical practices in literacy education in various ways and exploits the affordances of space and place as objects of study. Here, key principles are revisited with reference to brief contemporary instances of classroom practices that create pedagogies of possibility even in the face of mandated curriculum and high stakes testing. It briefly discusses glimpses of inventive ways in which principled school literacies can be reimagined in the contemporary contextenabling place-conscious pedagogies of possibility. It also explains vignettes of recent and current ways in which educators in different contexts foster inclusive literate citizens through the communal production of texts and artifacts of various kinds. The book explores glimpses of ways school pedagogies and literacies might be designed for contemporary and future citizenship.
