ABSTRACT
Factor analysis has been presen ted as a proced ure for analyz ing a two-dimensional data matrix. The fi rst dimen sion has been the indi vidu als who formed the rows of the data matrix. The second dimen sion is asso ci ated with the columns of the data matrix and has consisted of the vari ables. The term dimension is, however, a poor term because it is often a synonym for the term factor. In its place, the term mode is commonly used.
