ABSTRACT

Critically ill and dying persons in Switzerland receive a palliative care that is adapted to their needs, improving their quality of life. Switzerland's healthcare policy formulates the major goals of the 'National Palliative Care Strategy' in Switzerland. Palliative ostschweiz provides resources for the designing of regional concepts for needs-oriented planning and to support those with an interest in the development of palliative care services. The palliative ostschweiz association brings specialists from different organizations and professions from within the region engaged in palliative care together in networks. The founding of the palliative care forums strengthens community-based palliative care in Eastern Switzerland. The focus of the forum lies with debating the different outlooks of the individual institutions and organizations and finding consensus, with the aim of applying precisely these fundamental ethical principles to the care, treatment and support they provide to people in palliative situations.
