ABSTRACT

Bill's story provides both a vision for the project and serves as a tool to explain to people exactly what the Compassionate Communities concept is all about, in a way that engages people regardless of age, nationality or social background. Milford Care Centre initiates the Compassionate Communities Project. The aim of the Compassionate Communities Project is 'To enrich and support society to live compassionately with death, dying, loss and care and to demonstrate and evaluate the process of developing a compassionate community model in an Irish context'. The community engagement strand of the project plan is built around informing people of the purpose and aims of the project and engaging with them about the issues of death, dying, loss and care, using a variety of approaches. Milford Care Centre's Compassionate Communities Project spans across the whole of the Mid-West, guided by a comprehensive plan with a three-year time frame.
