ABSTRACT

As described in Chapter 2 , a multidimensional framework for understanding human functioning is increasingly being adopted in the intellectual disability field to understand the role of individualized supports in enhancing human functioning (Schalock et al., 2010). This multidimensional framework assumes that multiple domains influence the provision of individualized supports and outcomes, including intellectual functioning, adaptive behavior, health, participation, and context. Two of these domains, intellectual functioning and adaptive behavior, are the focus of this chapter.
