ABSTRACT

During the last decade, in the process of rapid industrialization, China has suffered a series of environmental emergencies that have resulted in damage to the ecosystem, human health, and property. China is currently going through a phase of rapid industrialization and urbanization, during which the scale and dimensions of environmental risks have continually been increasing. In addition to environmental accidents, accumulated environmental pollution has become a hidden danger to public health. With rising economic growth and living standards, individuals have started to pay greater attention to environmental protection and to show greater awareness of environmental pollution and risks. China has a vast territorial area with complex landscapes, and suffers from a high frequency of natural disasters that often cause severe loss of property. China has issued laws and a regulations system for environmental risk management based on the Constitutional Law, national laws and ministerial provisions and regulations.
