ABSTRACT
The 2011 failure of the nuclear power plant in Fukushima had several major repercussions for Japan’s social and political configurations. These repercussions can be investigated under a key theme of science, technology and society studies called “science, technology, and governance,” which looks at the political and policy implications of a topic under investigation; here, the “Fukushima effect” in regard to political leadership and to local communities and government.
