ABSTRACT

By describing the historic development of the Eurasian region and its characteristics, especially by looking at the political turbulence of 1980-90 in the Eurasian region, and the recovery of and the challenges facing Russia in the early twenty-first century in the context of globalization, this chapter argues that the establishment of a new Eurasian region will be a complex process, combining globalization and regionalization, universality and local features.
