ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts discussed in this book. The book presents the positive side of personal growth, realized change and progress for faculties or schools or colleges, all within the constraints of the complex realities of deaning. Collectively, the chapters, each in its own way, exhibiting a balance between the pros and cons of concerted study into the world of deaning. At an operational level, the chapter authors also unanimously support the definite need to prepare for the journey of becoming a dean. This can be enhanced through the creation of spaces that encourage deans to examine similarities and differences between their different roles, providing opportunities for critically reflecting on how systemic factors shape the nature of their work, creating contexts for sharing stories of practice. Such cultivation, the international dean authors in this book assert, would intentionally ready newcomers to the role for the duties, desires.
