ABSTRACT

Though costume renderings are often judged by how effectively they demonstrate the designer’s prowess with drawing and

painting, the primary purpose of the rendering is communication.

A successful rendering will also provide an indication of the style

of the design and of the show. A rendering is used to “sell” the

designer’s idea to the director, to the other designers, to the

performer, and to the producer who ultimately will foot the bill

to turn the drawing into an actual costume.
