ABSTRACT

Many people lack access to clean drinking water. This lack of access creates significant burdens, especially for women, who must walk long distances to secure small amounts of water for drinking, cooking, and cleaning. Contaminated water causes a range of illnesses, many of which are fatal. Two million people die each year from diarrheal diseases, which are mostly preventable by using simple treatments to ensure water is clean enough to drink. Poor-quality drinking water is one of the largest causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide.
