ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts discussed in the various chapters of this book. The book examines numerous criminological perspectives that have been used to explain racial and ethnic disparities in crime and justice. Nearly every major criminological perspective has served as the foundation for a study that directly or indirectly examines the role of race in understanding criminality or victimization. The conflict theory remains an important consideration for those seeking to understand race, crime, and justice. The book closes with two final comments. First, race, ethnicity, and crime is an important area of study. It moves the study of the role of race and ethnicity to the forefront of criminology. Second, it is obvious from recent scholarship that countries and cities around the globe are struggling with the same race and ethnicity-based crime and justice issues as the United States.
