ABSTRACT

Imagine walking into a classroom on the first day of your leadership course before the participants arrive. You see several rows of tables and chairs, all facing toward a podium and whiteboard. What does this setup communicate about the expected interaction in the classroom? Clearly, the idea is that you as the instructor will stand at the podium and show slides or scribble on the whiteboard as you impart knowledge to your rapt audience. Participants might have a chance to interact with you, but interacting with each other is not so likely, since they mainly see the back of fellow participants’ heads.
