ABSTRACT

Leadership assessment methods and instruments (many of which have been introduced in earlier chapters) abound. As leadership educators, which ones we choose will be based on what aspect of leadership we want to develop and how useful the assessments have proven to be. Fortunately, a good deal of research now exists about the best use of the assessments, and-for the formal instruments-extensive reporting of their validity and reliability is available. Researchers also offer findings about the best ways of assessing the effectiveness of leadership education itself. This chapter will examine research on the effectiveness and usefulness of the assessment methods that can be incorporated into coaching and mentoring for leadership development.
