ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on managing a stage boundary (SB) on projects in controlled environments (PRINCE2) for beginners. The ability to authorize a project to move forward a stage at a time is a major control for the Project Board. This process aims to provide the information needed by the project board about the current status of the project plan, business case and risks to enable them to judge the continuing worth of the project and commitment to a new plan. The project manager is responsible, but will need help from project support, the project board and team managers and they collates the information on risks, but each known risk should have been allocated to an 'owner', the person best placed to monitor that risk. They also responsible in consultation with the project assurance function. The project board approves a stage plan on the understanding that it stays within its defined tolerance margins.
