ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the two final challenges which face social entrepreneurs following the successful development and implementation of their business strategy. The first challenge is how to monitor, measure and report their social impact. The second challenge is how to grow a social enterprise so that it can maximize its impact in the wider world. Throughout the implementation phase of a social enterprise's strategy, the monitoring, measuring and reporting of a social enterprise's performance is critical to ensure that its goals are achieved. This would be particularly important in the construction industry where most construction work is subcontracted and where supply chains are typically long, complex, multilayered, multinational and often invisible. Finally, this chapter reviews the numerous tools, techniques and frameworks available to social enterprises to do this, and discusses the many challenges faced by social entrepreneurs in growing their businesses so that they can scale their impacts beyond the immediate local level.
