ABSTRACT

With a first-rate reputation for a pioneering 'learning to learn' programme that places as much emphasis on teaching students how to become good learners as it does on curriculum subjects, it is not surprising that staff at Cramlington Learning Village have grabbed, and held on to, the harness of technology in their drive to transform education. Cramlington Learning Village wanted the mobile devices made available on universal basis for students, starting in Year 7 and moving with them up the school, and considered various devices before opting for the Samsung Galaxy. Using the GPS facility on the Galaxy tablets, and the inbuilt cameras, they developed a 'trail', a map with photos of the different locations along the way that they could use in the guides. They also collected clues and recorded interviews with local residents which they then uploaded to a website accessible for the mobile devices.
