ABSTRACT

Challenge is very much part of the curriculum at Flitch Green Academy in Dunmow, Essex, so much so that it is on the timetable. These life skills, critical thinker, cool collaborator, challenge conqueror, creative navigator and confident character, are displayed around the school, along with Mr Trogon, the school's own cartoon bird that embodies the skills and encourages the children. The school opened five years ago with 55 pupils, and 100 MacBook laptops. Since then it has invested in iPods and, more recently after a successful trial, 80 iPads ten in each of the eight classrooms. Such positive attitudes are also exhibited by other members of the school community. One issue that the school needs to confront is replacing equipment as it wears out, having been so richly endowed when it opened its doors in 2008. Most of the devices are of the same age and it's beginning to show.
