ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the concept of 'interspace' to explain the embedding of artistic interventions in organizational dynamics and describes the database and method. Then, it presents the impacts documented at the personal, interpersonal, and organizational level, using illustrations from the published studies in the database as well as some additional examples from current research. Next, the chapter proposes 'making space' as the complementary concept to temporary interspaces, in order to create and sustain values-added. Artistic interventions are aesthetic experiences that engage people senses, enabling members of organizations to guide their decisions and actions. Artistic interventions in organizations may represent a new form of organizational development, sharing the humanistic orientation at the origin of that field. Personal development includes impacts on personal growth, leadership, and learning new skills. Personal growth is the most frequently cited personal development effect. The personal and interpersonal level learning are likely either to wash away by everyday organizational life routines, or to turn into cynicism.
