ABSTRACT

Jacques D'amboise is known to us all as one of the finest classical dancers of our time. He began his ballet training as a young child in New York City and by the age of twelve was already performing with Ballet Society, the predecessor company to the New York City Ballet. At fifteen, he dropped out of high school to join the New York City Ballet dancing principal roles two years later. By his mid-teens, he made his European debut at London's Covent Garden. As a choreographer himself, his credits include almost twenty works commissioned for the New York City Ballet. He has also choreographed, written, and directed for theater, film, and television, including the musicals Lady in the Dark, Peter Pan, and Thurber Carnival. Jacques d'Amboise has appeared on Broadway in the musical Shinbone Alley, in the films Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Carousel, The Best Things in Life Are Free, and the Disney film Off Beat.
