ABSTRACT

Throughout this book we have made reference to the use of materials in Solution Focused Brief Coaching (SFBC) with children and young people. In this chapter I will try to draw some of the ideas together to give you some examples of materials you might use in your work, and perhaps encourage you to develop and use your own materials if you are not already doing so. Coaches who design materials during a session with a child or young person, rather than bringing materials into the sessions, are often able to stay close to the child or young person’s conversation – for example, drawing a scale which particularly suits the child’s ideas or aspirations. This also means that materials do not have to be elaborate or expensive. However, sometimes it can be helpful to have some ideas for materials in your mind, or some actual materials to hand if the need arises, or you may want to plan a coaching programme which includes particular materials.
