ABSTRACT

Women friends are the best antidote to patriarchy. The way in which they provide for one another, make space in their lives to invite others in, and act in unlikely coalitions of justice seeking friends gives the hope and energy for the task of social transformation. As a theologian, author concerned that women's friendships are seen in the light of ultimate meaning and value. They reveal dimensions of spirituality and the divine which help to explain why women friends are so central in the lives. Further, it is feared that if women's friendships are subjected to too much analysis they will reveal that women love women. Most models of living in right relation or making friends are based on male experience. Friendship, especially among women, provides a compelling model for justice-seeking people. Women friends, loving well and working for justice, are motivation and sustenance enough to keep moving.
