ABSTRACT

It is increasingly recognised both in research, public health and sustainable planning policies and in the observation of groups in the community that people derive a sense of wellbeing from green spaces and trees in a neighbourhood. However, most character analysis fails to quantify and record this information about the quality and impact of urban landscape. This chapter will show examples of urban landscape and how important they are to their neighbourhoods. It will also provide examples of how we might record types of green space in our characterisation work.
