ABSTRACT

The Second Development Plan ending in 1980 entailed five successful years of development for Saudi Arabia. As discussed in the preceding chapter, substantial progress was achieved in attaining planned targets. Gross domestic product grew at an average annual rate of 8.04 per cent, with the non-oil sector increasing at an average rate of 15.13 per cent annually. These figures alone do not reveal all the significant economic advancements that were made and that provide the framework within which the Third Development Plan (1980-85) was conceived.
