ABSTRACT

The teacher should always thinks about student safety when using information and communication technology (ICT) as this replicates what is happening outside school when the students are doing similar activities, but in an unregulated way. One part of providing immediate support is that staff can ensure that the bullied student does not use online interactions to try to wreak revenge using similar strategies or to respond to taunts or online comments. Any student safety policy needs to see that low-level cyberbullying is part of youth culture. Bring your own devices (BYOD) is probably a new area for your school currently, and as such your school might not have an appropriate policy in place. It is important that the policy is clear and easily understandable by students, parents/carers, teachers and school staff. There is increase of hacking into smartphones in public areas and the subsequent downloading of passwords, bank details, etc., even when a phone is not being used and is just switched on.
