ABSTRACT
An extended school is one that considers the range of services or activities that it provides and how they are matched up to the needs of the local community as well as their students. These schools see themselves as a viable hub of the local community, offering the facilities and expertise needed to ensure that the local community can help itself and its students progress well and enjoy a fulfilled and productive life. Technology can play an important role in the extended school because it enables the school to extend its reach beyond the physical confines of the buildings and out into a more online and interactive local community experience. Technology does not just refer to the online environment. It also covers a very wide range of products, devices and everyday appliances, many of which offer opportunities for providing interesting and different ways to engage and enthuse learners and general members of the community.
