ABSTRACT
Low density forms of residential development are not considered to be sustainable; major metropolitan areas now have plans that strongly promote higher density housing in order to create compact cities (Randolph, 2005: 5). However the continued presence of bushlands and agricultural lands close to metropolitan areas (and often undervalued by communities) are equally important for sustainability considerations (see Sinclair, 2002; 2010; Brinkley, 2012).
