ABSTRACT
Housing is not a common study unit taught among accredited planning courses in Australia and, without such knowledge, the potential impact on housing by planners is not well understood within the profession. This chapter is aimed at identifying impediments associated with the gap in the housing knowledge and awareness of planners in respect to affordable housing. The first part of the discussion highlights the distinctive features within the Australian system of urban governance that consolidate the separation of housing from planning.
