ABSTRACT
External forces were dominant in moulding Tunisia's economic development in the 1970s. Extroversion of economic affairs is not new to Tunisia which served once as commercial base for the Phoenicians. later as granary to the Roman empire and more recently as a raw material export economy under French colonial administration. The nature of external intervention in the 1970s was. however. new and had a profound effect on the country's economic structure.
