ABSTRACT

This chapter presents clinical material of a female patient who was effectively held hostage during a period of her youth. Although she was in reality free to escape, she was under constant surveillance by her captor and his gang who threatened to kill her if she told anyone about them or attempted to escape. She was also held captive in her mind – not only out of fear but out of love. Despite her terror, she was convinced that without her captor she would cease to exist psychically.
