ABSTRACT

Designing wigs that are made of alternative materials opens up a whole new realm of creative possibilities. Different materials allow the students to achieve new and interesting looks, and, in some cases, even help them to solve problems. Many materials that the students may choose to use in a wig will need to have a stronger-than-usual base or foundation to support them. Fosshape ® is an excellent material to use when making non-traditional wig bases. It is a soft, pliable fabric that responds to steam or dry heat. The material the students are making wig out of is very heavy, they will want as much of the wig as possible to be hollow – this will keep the weight down and make wearing the wig easier. One particular hair material that can be used creatively is jumbo braid. This is an extremely inexpensive kind of synthetic that can be used in many different ways to create or fill out wigs.
