ABSTRACT

In Chapter 4 I explained how, according to what I could observe from my own data, the victim–offender mediation process seems to work. Then I concluded that the result is not independent of the context in which the offence took place, especially with regard to the relationship between the victim and the offender. I also concluded that the contact with the mediation service could have positive results, even when the process of mediation did not take place at all. This means that the communication process between victim and offender starts from the very first contact with the mediator. Every reaction to the offer is also a message sent to the other party.
