chapter  10
The Role of Education
Pages 50

In Chapter 9 we made an attempt to establish whether the development of the health and nutrition status of the Haitian peasants may have acted as a positive influence on agricultural production per head of the rural population which may have served as a brake on the tendency for rural per capita incomes to fall. Health and nutrition are, however, not the only dimensions of interest in this context, but if it can be established that the quantity and quality of rural education have undergone substantial and manifest changes for the better, we may discover another brake mechanism which mitigates the declining trend in incomes.
