5Policy impacts and voices of women in science and engineering: evaluation and survey results
The previous chapter highlighted a number of new policies and initiatives that were introduced in the mid-2000s. This chapter will look at the impact of those measures on female scientists and institutions by reviewing some key reports and documents. The MEXT-funded ‘Model’ programme (introduced in 2006) has been the most encompassing policy to date in Japan, covering all types (national, local and private) of university and national research institute across the country. Since 2013, firms and government bodies can also join the programme as partner institutions.
