ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the inter-relationship between the individual and team levels within employment social environment (ESE). More specifically, it explores the double meaning of trust at the individual level and at the team level as an intervening factor that decreases or increases aggression. The chapter also explores trust, anger and aggression on the interplay between individual and team levels within the Emotional Social ENvironment (ESEN). The ESEN impacts team culture of trust, and socialization of newcomers. ESE is a microfoundation representing individuals' characteristics, various forms of social interactions and the process dynamics at different levels of organizational analysis. Employees in an organization may face different kinds of aggressive behaviours from different perpetrators. On the interpersonal level, an individual can be the target of aggressive behaviour from his/her supervisor, from colleague or customer. Aggressive behaviour can be instrumental or reactive. Instrumental aggression is motivated by the drive to gain some benefits, such as power, control, reputation, goods and resources.
