ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the FSC Forest Management (FM) Certification system. The objective is to give an overview of the FM Standards focusing on the most recent version of FSC Principles and Criteria, the standard FSC-STD-01-005 V5-2 (FSC, 2015a). Paragraphs 6.1, 6.2 and 6.3 present the overall framework of the standard, while the main requirements of the standard (e.g., socio-economic impacts, environmental impacts, stakeholder consultation, etc.) are described in paragraph 6.4. The chapter also provides two case studies on the application of the FSC FM Standard: a case study in Canada, which focuses on indigenous people, and a case study in Chile, which focuses on certification of planted forests.
