ABSTRACT

Language and how we use it to communicate are complex issues involving different areas of the brain (see Chapter 1) and therefore the site of any injury will have a bearing on the way language difficulties are presented. Many people, understandably, think just of difficulties with speech and assume that if these are not apparent then a person has no language difficulties. This is not the case and the person may have significant problems either understanding or formulating language when they are able to articulate words perfectly clearly.
