ABSTRACT

Some deficits related to ABI are permanent and non-reversible which means that the onus on those working with individuals who present with these is to help them to learn compensatory strategies towards overcoming their difficulties. Unfortunately, it will not be possible to reinstate some of these absent or weakened skills. Pushing a person through a programme to make them do something which they are fundamentally incapable of doing will never achieve progress or ensure appropriate behaviour, but it will result in frustration and demotivation for the learner and the teacher. Helping the person to find different ways to remember and to achieve is positive for all involved.
