ABSTRACT

This chapter explains the concept of an inclusive Participatory Pedagogy as part of our holistic view of pedagogy, as well as identify and explore the meaning of those interrelated core concepts which serve to frame the way in which a participatory pedagogy is enacted. Participatory pedagogies focus on maximizing all students' access to learning through the development of a holistic approach that considers individual and contextual variables in learning. It also involves an explicit discussion of the different perspectives, backgrounds and forms of knowledge of the participants whilst also subjecting these to critical reflection in collaborative learning processes. This chapter also discusses the equal importance of the design and underpinning philosophy of the curriculum in supporting the creation of an inclusive learning climate. Individualization is more than a one-to-one instructional arrangement: it means matching instruction to individually identified needs which could be one-to-one, group, or whole class instruction.
