ABSTRACT

One of the clear strengths of the assessment center (AC) method is the use of multiple sources of information to evaluate performance. Observations of multiple behaviors by multiple assessors in multiple situations are aggregated in different ways to yield the ratings that serve as the output of the program. In ACs in which dimensions are the primary focus of scoring and interpretation, observations of behavior are aggregated across behaviors, assessors, and exercises to provide acrossexercise dimension ratings (AEDRs), and often across dimensions to provide an overall assessment rating (OAR). In ACs where tasks are the primary focus of scoring and interpretation, observations of behavior are aggregated across assessors and behaviors to provide overall exercise ratings (OERs), and often across exercises to yield an OAR. ACs with the multifaceted perspective combine data to yield ratings of both dimensions and exercises and their combination.
