This chapter focuses on theoretical framework known as path analysis can be built, by which the causal links among the attributes are statistically tested. It introduces a set of hypotheses based on the causal relationships in the path diagram and the econometric framework to test these hypotheses. The chapter estimates the effect of pre-university academic performance on the decision to take cooperative education. The linear probability model expresses the probability of response as a linear function of independent variables. A probit model is based on the standard normal cumulative distribution. Each coefficients explains the effect of corresponding variable on the dependent variable if all other variables remain unchanged. The dependent variable Emp is the quality of job placement or self-evaluation of job performance. The quality of job placement may be defined either by the job status, that is, full-time or part-time, or by the company status, that is, listed or unlisted, of one's first job.
